Taking control of your health

Saying it’s hot may be an understatement. Yesterday on the coast was a stinker and when I say it’s hot it must be hot. Naturally I’m the cold blooded type – I love the heat, laying in the sun, I mean come on I take a jacket or sarong with me everywhere just on the odd chance the wind picks up and I get cold. (woose I know)

Yesterday though – well that was another story. Up early I was out running stairs and madly getting ready to pack for my adventure to Melbourne (of which I am on the plane now) – but when I got home I was not going anywhere.

You know those days when it’s just so stinking hot that all you want to do is sit right next to an air conditioner – or jump into the freezer. That was me yesterday. Or those days it’s FREEEZING and all you want to do is be next to the fire or heater.

You can’t control the weather outside, but you can control the weather inside. And that is exactly what I did. Sat in my swimmers, packing, finalized bits and pieces and chilled out, literally in the air con.

It’s an interesting thought. Not being able to always control your environment.

Take where I am right now for example – on a plane. I can’t control the air temperature, whom I sit next too, the smell, what they serve on the trolley, the cleanliness of the toilet – none of that.

On the flipside, what can I control?

We may not be able to control what is around us 24-7, the environment and our surroundings at all times. Yet what is in our control?

We can control and choose our thoughts, what we eat, whom we eat with, where to go, what we wear….

Many things can be controlled. The question is what DO you control?

Our thoughts, actions and mindset are all things we can control, and they all have a large impact on who we are and our overall wellbeing and health.

As the saying goes; “you can’t control the outside, but you can the inside.”

When I learnt this concept a few years ago it really puzzled and tested me at the same time. It’s so easy when you’re out with friends or family to be offered a drink, bite to eat and just go ‘ok, thanks.’

Many people do this, hell I’m guilty of it in the past too! We do it all while thinking…
– I really don’t need that drink
– I don’t even want cake
– I’m not going to feel good after this
– Oh I might as well to keep everyone happy
– What will they think of me if I say no?

What if you took control of that action and thought?
What about what you want, what you feel like, keeping yourself happy?

When did we loose the power of ourselves, and putting us first and start doing things to please others?

Imagine taking ‘control’ and doing these things for yourself no one else.

Doing what you want, not what anyone else wants you too.
Doing, eating, drinking, being, feeling, thinking exactly how you wish too.

Imagine that!

Controlling what happens on the inside of your body. I’m sure you’re thinking of moments right now where you could of made a better choice for yourself – gosh I’m thinking of some times right now myself.

Now let’s connect that to our health. Taking control and ownership of what you do:
– Choosing what goes in your body
– How you treat your body
– Where you spend your time
– Whom you spend your time with…

Today the way I make choices is totally different to in the past. It’s even very different to how others do and I’m ok with that too. I BYO water everywhere as I choose to drink water that is clean where I know what’s in it. If I’m surrounded by conversations that don’t serve me or have negative energy I get up and move.

I say ‘no thanks’ to offers that don’t serve me and my wellbeing, and I proud too.

Now when friends ask me if I want cake at parties that doesn’t make me feel well I’m happy to say ‘no thanks’ knowing I’m not going to feel sick, bloated, yucky or lethargic if I did have some just to be polite.

My mind is happier
My body is happier
And I feel happier !

Crazy to think that in these moments of making small instance decision that you can control how you feel, look, think, breathe and be.
