How to find a good multivitamin that actually works

Buy cheap, get cheap results.
Invest in quality and get quality results.

Having worked in the nutrition manufacturing industry for 7 years I’ve seen my fare share of fake and misleading products and finding a good multivitamin or any nutritional product was near impossible. What more than 95% of companies say on the bottle, bag or wrapper is not always what is actually inside the product. This makes finding a good multivitamin or any nutritional product for that matter rather challenging.

Consumer concerning, ummm yep tell me about it.
So, How can you know what you’re buying is actually what it says it is?

No wonder people think nutritional products don’t work.  Truth: this use to be exactly my belief. Nutritional products do not work

Come to your own conclusions based on your own experience. To know if something works for you or not means you need to have experience in it or with it.

It wasn’t until I had healed my leaky gut back at the end of 2013 and was about to jetset travelling with the family until I really needed to find something that would give me extra support while traveling in a third world country.  My diet was on point, my health was on point but when you’re in a different country, don’t speak their language and their tap water is well… not brush your teeth with worthy it’s smart thinking to take extra support.

The search began.

Knowing what I knew from being on the other side of manufacturing and where things came from my hunting for a multivitamin that was what it says it was got deeper and deeper.  It took me some time but I got there in the end and have been using the same product for 4 years and my body loves it cause well I actually notice big differences with it.

.

Today it’s a question I’m frequently asked,

“how do I find a good multivitamin?”

Are you wondering too?  Well you’re far from alone. Here’s my easy 3 ways to find a multivitamin that is of high quality, you can trust and that is safe for your health.

.

3 Ways to Finding a good Multivitamin

.

1. Always choose a pharmaceutically graded product

This goes for all nutritional products, not just a multivitamin including; fish oils, vitamin c, liver supports, joint formula’s, probiotics etc.  What this grading means is what’s in the bottle is on the label – guaranteed!  Now many (most) companies won’t list this on the bottle so you may have to go to their website and fish for it, or easier option call them and ask; ‘are your products food standard or pharmaceutically graded?’  Food standard is something that is not required to list everything that is in the product, while some companies many this is not transparent enough for me.  Pharmaceutically graded is crystal clear.

2. Look for third party testing

Third party testing is independent and well third party.  So it’s not just the company or a representative telling the product is good an independent lab that’s not connected with the company has done the research, testing and shares this knowledge publicly. This too can be challenging to find but I’ll let you in on a little secret, the two best third parties I’ve ever come across for nutritional products is Nutrisearch.ca and ConsumerLab.com.  With over 1600+ products in North America and 250+ in Australia/New Zealand alone both these third parties do a lot of sifting for you. Plus you can go to the website, or grab the book online yourself too.  Don’t have the Nutrisearch book for your company.  Ask me for a copy of it here.

3. Money back guarentee

There’s not a lot of companies that put their money where their mouth is (and not just to sponsorships for publicly well known names) so when you find one that does it’s a massive high five from me.  If you can purchase a product, use some of it and still return it even if half unused and the company still gives you your money back – that’s a company that prides itself on it’s product ability and reputation.  Most brands websites will feature this if they offer it, otherwise ask.

And here, is an easy RECAP:

1. Pharmaceutically Graded
2. Third Party Approved Tested
3. Money Back Guarantee

.

BONUS

One other thing that’s a stand out for me is if the product brand / company is publicly traded. This means their publicly listed and all of their company data and details can be viewed by the public at any time.  In hindsight it makes a company completely transparent. Like Facebook for example, they went public a couple of years ago and if you’re really curious you can read up about what’s happening in the company be it either good media or bad media.  Ok, officially taking off my business hat now.

As you can see there’s more to choosing a good multivitamin or nutritional product than just a fancy looking bottle and pretty label.  It pays to know what you’re using and whatever product you choose make always make sure it’s pharmaceutically graded.
