We all have at some stage in our lives had an absolute pig out on Christmas day. Now there is no ‘sins’ in doing so but when it does coming to eating and indulging this festive season be wise and prepared, and guilt free after your dedicated work at nourishing yourself this year.
Here are my 4 survival secrets:
1. Be prepared!
You don’t want one day of the year to make you feel like you’ve totally ruined the work you’ve done in healing, understanding and nourishing your body. Plus if you have any food allergies being prepared is a must.
You know your body and what can trigger you and at the same time you don’t want to offend anyone either.
Top Prep Tips:
– Start your day off with a nutrient rich smoothie. (Make this the day before and store it in a jar in the fridge so there’s no excuses come Christmas morning)
– Have 1-2 digestive enzymes approximately 20mins before each meal. This will aid in preparing your digestive system for food and assist in breaking it down.
– Carry probiotic’s and vitamin C on you. I carry these with me anywhere (all the time), particular in the instance of being ‘glutened’ unexpectedly or eating a food that doesn’t sit well with me I have a mini first aid patch to help my body digest it and support my immune.
– Don’t forget to have your am and pm nutritional supplements to ensure you’re getting the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants you’re body needs to help boost your digestion, support immune and protect against any free radical damage from all those yummy puddings and drinks you’ll be consuming.
2. 80/20 Rule
Find the balance for yourself between eating too much and not enough. There is place in between and quiet often on days such as Christmas we eat so fast we don’t realise we are full until we are very full. Plus when you reach 80% your stomach and digestive enzymes can still do their job effectively. Ps. Breathe when you eat. Try not to rush, you can always go back for seconds later.
3. Move your body
Christmas can be filled with eating, drinking, eating and eating some more. Be careful not to become a complete couch vegetable. Get up and move. Take a walk do the street, around the house, stretch or play with children. This will keep your digestive system burning helping you digest your fav festive dishes without the sluggish feeling.
4. Drink
Yes I am talking about water, haha get your mind out of the bar. Upon waking drink a large glass of water, with your digestive enzymes 20+mins before food also drink a large glass of water. Staying well hydrated will help you in sticking to your 80/20 goal as well as staying nourishing. Plus in Australia our summer is HOT and water can often be forgotten about on Christmas so drink up beauty’s!
Here’s to happy belly’s and healthy feasting!
